Northern soul nightclub, The Night Owl, announces launch date in Birmingham

Northern Soul - does Birmingham love you (indeed we do).

The genre has always had a big following in its north of England and Midlands heartlands influencing a host of artists since the '60s, including the likes of The Small Faces, Stone Roses and Plan B.

And now the scene returns to it's Midlands heartlands this summer with the launch of new nightclub The Night Owl.

Organisers had been tight lipped about the venue's opening but have now revealed it kicks off on Friday, July 17 at its Lower Trinity Street home.

The new as yet unconfirmed venue is expected to include an authentic spring dancefloor which should provide a good base for ladies and gents to flex their best high octane moves to the likes of Frank Wilson, James Fountain, Dana Valery and Archie Bell & the Drells.

The bar, run by northern soul man Richard Priest, announced the opening night will feature only music from the genre on vinyl for the opening night.

Future events are expected to include ska, reggae and mod.

Soulvation's northern soul nights at the Hare and Hounds in Kings Heath and last year's Testify Northern Soul All Dayer in Alfie Birds, the Custard Factory, have attracted good crowds in recent times.

Looks like Brummies are keeping the faith.
